Addendum to the previous post.. scroll down then come back to this one.

Amanda showing her fish to me, while Courtenay looks on.

This was a very exciting time for Amanda.. She caught her first fish ever!! She was really excited and wanted Dad to show them how to 'gut' a fish. So he got down on the ground with them and gutted it. I decided that if we're going to be catching fish then we should be eating them, otherwise it's a waste. So I put the fish into tinfoil with butter and seasoning salt and cooked it over the fire... It was actually pretty good. :) Not too long after eating we got everything together and into the van.
We left about 8 pm. As we're driving along the narrow little bush road, I hear Lindsay behind me asking if she can drive.... She's 15 and has never driven... but I hesitate... while thinking.. then said sure... I guess so... if Dad doesn't mind....So he said he didn't see why not... She COULDN'T believe it!!!! She was SO excited. We let her drive for about an hour... I think it was the highlight of the year for her! She did really well too....Must get it from her mother!! lol...

FATHER'S DAY!!!

I'm finally getting at it! So here ya go--

On Father's Day morning we went to church and headed out from there. Our first stop was at A&W for a bucket of chicken for lunch. We ate in the van since we had over an hour to drive before we got to the lake.
When we were almost to where we were going, there was a bit of a creek through the road... we slowed down and had a look at it and decided that it wasn't too deep to go through... with the van!!! I think we really need a 4X4 for these bush excursions! The water was a little deeper than we had expected it to be. It actually came up over the top of the running boards! The girls ooh-ed and aaah-ed about that!
We spent the day fishing and hanging around the fire just enjoying the quiet... well... it wasn't really quiet, there were lots of birds and creatures making lovely noises. It was so peaceful up there.
So here are some pictures from that day. They aren't the greatest quality... I probably didn't have the camera on the right setting... I don't use it often enough... I'm going to have to figure it out!

Janelle being goofy!

The bush that we parked in the middle of - next to the lake.
The sky through the trees.
Janelle fishing.
Lindsay peeking through the bushes.

Lindsay, Goldie and Janelle.... showing off her pepperoni stick.
Lindsay and I on the little 'dock'.
Lindsay found a dragonfly nymph. (we think)

Janelle fishing again.
Dad giving Janelle some pointers on the art of fishing.
Courtenay and Amanda in the canoe.
Shortly after we got there they headed out in search of firewood. This is what they came back with!!!

Lindsay and Janelle hanging out around the fire.

Linday being a goofy nut bar!! :oD
Janelle and Lindsay out in the canoe

I guess I'm going to have to make a second post to get all the pictures in... one of the highlights of the day isn't even on here yet!!

ps...
we don't normally dress like the hillbillies that we look like in these pictures...the older girls are wearing some of their Dad's jackets, and grubbies.

FACEBOOK

Have you heard of Facebook? It's the newest thing that I've found. Apparently most people find it addicting...Not me.... I could take it or leave it. I find blogging much more enjoyable. But one thing about it... you can look up old friends...
I found a childhood friend on there that I'm waiting to hear back from. We were best friends for many years and when I was about 16 I lived with her family for part of a year. I was so excited to find her. We haven't talked for about 12 years or so... I've heard that she's gotten married.. had a baby... and I don't know what else she's done, but I'm really glad that I finally tracked her down.
If you go back in my archives, I've actually written about her. Her name is Darla.... we had TONS of fun together.
Anyway... If I had to choose between these two vices, I'd pick this one... I find it's much more personal. We get to know each other through our blogs. Being relational beings, I think most of us would pick this over the other...
So what do YOU think... AND do you have a Facebook account too??

Have YOU ever??

I see on the sidebar of my blog an ad about working from home and making $40/hr....doing surveys...?
Has anyone ever done that? I'm wondering if it's something that I should do? I really don't want to go to work! I want to be here....Actually it's more than not wanting to go to work. I just can't seem to keep up at all on things around the house when I work! It's terrible, things just fall apart! The house becomes un-inhabitable!! And I'm NOT kidding!
So I'm thinking - the solution must be to find something that I can do from here, and still be able to contribute to our finances...
Too bad we didn't get paid for blogging, hey guys?!?!?!! LOL>>> don't we all wish....some of us would be rollin' in the dough. :OD
If anyone has any great suggestions for me....Just let me know!!!
thanx!

The Answers to: Sooo...... which one is NOT true... which ones are true?

And the answers AAAARE:

1. I got married on my 20th birthday.

FALSE!
I got married one month before my 22nd birthday. My newest friend Debbie is the winner on this one.... Actually Ginger guessed it right too... way to go girls!!

2.I have 4 children.

TRUE
I have 4 girls. Ages 9, 12, 131/2, and 15!!!

3. I rode my horse in the house when I was a kid.

TRUE. Sorry Terri-- Believe it or not... I did... I rode her through the house, in the front door and out the back! I was about 9 or 10... mom had gone to town to grocery shop and when the cat's away the mice will play!!! The floors were hardwood and no she didn't make a mess... yes Peter she was a pony, a Welsh pony.. very nice little horse.

4. I've had a job where I lit fires in the forest.

TRUE... Had great fun especially since I'm a total firebug!!! What more could one ask for.. getting paid to light fires!?! Except that we were slugging thru wet and cold, deep snow and trying to light wet wood piles!!!

Friendship

“Too often the I-can-handle-it-myself society we live in seems to promote loneliness rather than friendship. Friends are an important part of sharing the burden and worry of each day.”

Word verification

Well I'm having to put the dreaded "word verification" into use again. I got my first spam today. At least I think it's spam. Someone left a comment. I didn't recognize their name. So clicked on it. It went to a weight loss page....I'm assuming this is the spam that others have talked about? Anyway it's back in place for awhile I guess.... unless I decide to change over to comment moderation. But it's nice being able to see all the comments and not having to wait until I go online to approve them....Oh well this will do for now. Hope you're all having a great week.
Take care!!

Sharing a Good Book.

Hi I picked up this tag on Ginger's blog.

Grab the closest book, go to page 123, find the 5th sentence and, on your blog, put the next three sentences. Write the title of the book and the author’s name. Tag three other people.

Okay .. the book that I have sitting closest to me right now will absolutely revolutionize your life!! Pick it up at a bookstore today!! You won't be sorry that you did! So what is this book? Well the book closest to me is a Bible. It's a NLT (New Living Translation). It's my favourite translation...I have a few different ones. Here are those 3 sentences.

The Lord said to Moses, “Now that you have brought these people out of Egypt, lead them to the land I solemnly promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I told them long ago that I would give this land to their descendants. And I will send an angel before you to drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.

Wow that was a lot of "ites"... Okay so maybe this part isn't exactly inspiring... but read it through and you will definitely find it so!
Please share a favorite read with me if you feel so lead or post this idea on your blog.

Garlic Lime Chicken

This is THE most amazing chicken recipe EVER!!!! Even if you don't think you would like something like this- I suggest that you try it- I think you will be pleasantly surprised! I used to get a menu mailed to me a couple of years ago and this is one of the recipes from that. I downloaded and printed them because they were so good! I hope you give it a try... I'm making it for dinner tomorrow night. I'll make brown rice to go with it. I know most people don't like brown rice, but we really enjoy the nutty flavour of it(if it's not overcooked!). Besides that, we eat it for the health benefits. wooee... that was a side-track! I'll also make a salad of baby greens and probably a cooked veggie as well. I think everyone will be happy with that!

Have a great weekend everyone!

take care.

ps

tomorrow we tackle the pool full force!! YIPPEEE the kids are so excited... ha.. I think we all are!

Garlic Lime Chicken
Serves 6

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 4 tablespoons lime juice

In a bowl, mix together first 7 ingredients. Sprinkle mixture on both sides of chicken breasts.

In a skillet heat butter and olive oil together over medium high heat. Saute chicken until golden brown, about 5 minutes on each side. Turn down the heat, remove the chicken (keeping warm) and add the lime juice and chicken broth to the pan, whisking up the browned bits off the bottom of the skillet. Keep cooking until sauce has reduced slightly. Add chicken back to the pan to thoroughly coat and serve.
