Okay is there anyone out there who also hates that 'word verification' thing on our blog comments?? When I leave a comment I punch those letters in at least twice, but usually three or four times!! How annoying!?!? But I also have this feature enabled on my blog..... sounds kind of stupid eh? Well I'm told that I need to have it to keep spammers from getting onto my blog... do you know anything about this? Is that what it's all about? I'm really tempted to drop it but don't want anyone messing with my blog. Let me know what you think (or know!).

I don't have it on my blog. I had a couple of spammers really early on when I first started but haven't had any in months. I don't do it on my blog because it drives me nuts when I have to put the letters in 2 or 3 times even though I know I got it right the first time, and the second, etc.
That is really hard. I hate it too. The spammers are not really going to 'do anything' to your blog-but they WILL post ridiculous posts about buying things, going to websites, etc. Basically junk mail for your blog.
There is also another option that my sister has but I do not-so I don't know much about it. Basically it is 'comment moderated'. All comments are sent to your inbox where the blog author can approve or disapprove comments to appear on your blog.
I haven't done that just because I think it is SO disappointing to see you have a comment and for it to be junk.
Anyway. Hope this helps a bit!
Now, I tend to comment on peoples cboxes just to avoid all the rigamaroll of commenting!

Im glad you asked.... ;) I was wanting to post about this issue myself.
I really do not like to fill in the word verification.
After someone pointed out to me that they usually skip commenting on blogs that have it, I took mine off. And then I found, I usually do the same thing myself...if someone has it, I will usually skip commenting just so that I dont have to fill it out. Because half the time I have to do it a few times before getting it correct.
That said, I always fill out yours and few other peoples.
It wont mess up your blog at all.
I have only once had someone post a comment that was basically advertising their site (not a blogger) and I easily delted their comment, no big deal.
But your blog can not get messed up.
Your just making things easier for commentors by getting rid of it.
My preference would be for everyone to get rid of it.
But its your blog so do what YOU want.

I stumble over these all the times too, but I like it to keep away spammers, although I've never had any.
I try to look at the positive side, it keeps my eyes sharp and fingers nimble ;)
Ok, the word verification thing to type in is so clear - why can't they all be like this? - Ok, take that back, I'm back to type in a second set. here goes...
Okay.... so.... here it is-I've decided to get rid of the word verification for a bit. We'll see how it goes, if I get spam, I'll have to put it back on..so for now.. ta da! gone!!
