My little baker

Our daughter Courtenay has been decorating cakes for the last couple of years, for most of the birthdays in our home...and even some outside of our family! Here are a few pics of some of her most recent cakes!

Janelle's 10th birthday.

The butterfly and the guitar are both made using rolled
fondant. She rolls it out on the counter then picks it up
and lays it over the cake. It reminds me of pastry, which
I don't enjoy making pastry at all! It always breaks apart
on me.

Butterfly cake for Janelle's birthday. We celebrated it with some good friends that live nearby...but not near enough! (These 3 have decided that the parents of the younger two, should buy the house 2 doors over from us that's for sale!) Louise threw together some impromptu birthday games...it was great...She made it special for Janelle...and I think her kiddos had fun too. :)

Lindsay turned 16!! Wow!! How can this be??? I'm so much toooo young to have a 16 year old!! ;o)

♫♫Happy ♫Birthday to you....♫

Lindsay playing her "guitar".
Court made her a guitar cake because
Lindsay has and plays guitar.
"OOPS! Those strings are sliiiding off!"

Grandma had a big birthday this year....mind you..so were Janelle and Lindsay's...10 and 16......and mine is the big 4-0! Randal's was a big one too....and Amanda became an official teenager! woo hoo...3 teens in the house now. 3 down one to go! :os The only one who doesn't have a big birthday...(number wise) is Court.

I love the bright colours and the contrast created with them.
The flowers are made from Royal Frosting. She made them ahead of time and let them harden and dry out. She then placed them on the cake. What awesome cakes!! I'll post some more later on.

Happy Birthday Randal!!

Today is Randal's 45th birthday. Courtenay is making him a white cake with 7 minute frosting and coconut on it! MMMMM sounds delicious. We're about to eat a roast venison dinner. I worked all day from 9 to 5:30 then a 20 minute drive home...so dinner is really late!
Randal has requested party games after dinner. ;) Actually not really party games...a board game.
Actually....I think we will pull out the game that Lyle and Paula gave us for Christmas. It looks like alot of fun. It's called "Mad Gab"-but not the regular one. This one is a CD/DVD. Each team has a buzzer/button to push...so I think it's going to be a good one. Well my gravy is needing my attention....so take care....

♫ ♫Happy Birthday to♫ Me...Happy ♫Birthday to Me.......♫

In amongst all the kids and company, I had a birthday. The kids and Nana made a dinner for me the night before and then the night of, we went out to dinner with some friends. I had a very nice birthday.
I had mentioned one time to my friend, Louise, that I really wanted a camera and that I had told Randal that for all my occasions for the next year, that a camera was all I wanted...Well Louise remembered this and for my birthday she gave me this cute little cow with the beginnings of a camera fund!! I felt kinda dumb that I'd said it to her, but it had been in innocence...just a conversation about how I'd like to get a camera. She's so thoughtful.

"OOOOOOHHH...I remember that conversation....."

The Cow containing the "camera fund".

Out for dinner with friends, Steve and Louise. We had a great dinner out at the Pasta Factory!! As Steve would say..."mmmm mm mmmm mmm mmmm"! :)) It was strange being away...I felt like I needed to get home because Mom and Grandma were home with 16 kids! But I did enjoy it.
One of the four or five cakes that the girls made for me. They had lots of fun baking and decorating them!
This is my Grandma that you all prayed for this spring. She has healed up amazingly! She looks really tired in this picture because she'd just spent the day in the house with 8 kids then the evening with 16!! It was so nice to have her here!! I didn't have great grandparents growing up, so our kids are really blessed to be able to enjoy having her around!

PS
I'm catching up on my posting, so there are two posts for today...scroll down.
