Unprecedented Wind Storm

Today we had an incredible wind storm. It started last night and continued through the night and throughout the day. It was awesome to watch but had sad results for many inhabitants of our fine city. The winds were gusting up to 65 mph/105kmh! Very high winds..maybe not for those of you who live in hurricane country but this is unheard of in this area! We went for a walk down by the lake where the wind was gusting in off the lake.I was SO annoyed that I didn't have a camera, but I did find some pictures on the internet. So here you go......

One of the many broken pine trees in the park.

Uprooted trees by the dozens! I heard that about half of the pine trees in the park are down.

The waves were roaring up onto the beach..I don't think I've ever seen such large waves on a lake..although it's hard to tell how big they are in this picture. On the news they had footage of someone surfing and the guy disappeared under the curl of the wave!!

The water is normally about 20 feet to the left of that sign.
While we walked along the sea(lake)wall the wind was almost blowing us off our feet. It made us weave as we walked along. The sand was whipped up and we felt like we were being sand blasted at times. Why, you say, would you go out in this?? Well...for no good reason other than to feel the sheer force of the wind and be out in it experiencing natures amazing force!
They said on the news that this is the worst wind storm that our city has ever experienced.

Woah! This is crazy! I'm glad to hear that y'all didn't have major damage like this. We're down in hurricane country, but this still amazes me that WIND could do so much!

Hey you! Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving sweet comments. Amazing pictures, wow, we too had quite the wind storm, Portland area lost power for about 12 hrs dur to down trees, we are in the country just outside of Vancouver, our wind was not to bad, just enough to make a leafy mess in our yard.

I loved the pictures though, thank you
Blessings

Wow! We had the same wind storm, and had some power outages and downed trees, but nothing like this that I know of. Last winter we had some really bad wind and rain storms that changed our Stanley Park forever. We joke that God gave us a new view! ;)

Yes I remember when that storm hit Stanley Park...it was incredible! kinda sad to see...a lamdmark that is no longer there..
some parts of town are supposed to be out of power until sometime today..there were trees down on the lines all over town...we went for a drive to see what was going on in the city....there were trucks with crews working to fix the damage up down MANY streets in town...the craziest thing was the people that were in amongst the downed trees with their small children as the wind was blowing and the trees were swaying! Many more trees were tipped over and leaning on other trees too! Crazy! we stayed down by the beach...on the side of the trees that the wind was hitting..not the other where we'd be in danger of being hit! Once we had a bit of a look we got out of there and went home, not to be in the way of the workers trying to secure the area and make it safe.

Wow, I hope everyone was okay!!

Amazing photo's too and how close that tree was to your home...

Nature has a way of letting us all know - that she has the power of the waves and the winds.

Peter...these trees aren't close to my home actually...they're in the park by the beach..which is a few kilometres from our home. It made me glad that we don't have any huge trees next to our home..there are a couple of huge maples across the street but I dont think they'd reach our house..our yard for sure but not the house. Peter...can't seem to comment on your blog...is there something I'm doing wrong there..??

oh my! Glad these aren't on your house!

Scary Stuff - I think you were all very game to go out walking during such a huge storm. I think I would of hid under the bed and waited for it to pass. Great photos also.

when you experience something like that you realize just how POWERFUL God is. He created that wind....as well as the trees it blew down.
