This could actually end up being good for me!! I'm not very good with doing the same thing very many days in a row! Well since I've signed up to post everyday for a month....I'm thinking that blogging could actually force me to form a habit!!
How many days do they say it takes to form a habit?? Well I googled that. I came up with a few answers, 30 days, 21 days, 90 days...but the consensus seems to be 21 days. So...after this month of blogging I figure that I should have a habit formed! Hmmm we shall see. I am so NOT a creature of habit. How about you? Are you one of those people that drives the same route every time you go to the grocery store...or take the kids to school..go to work? Yeah..not me....I take a different route...one of many...each time, whichever strikes my fancy, so to speak. But I do tend to avoid main street in case you cared haha. I have to say though that becoming a bit more of a creature of habit would be a good thing. I've always liked change though, so this is a long habit in the making. I've tried before to form some good habits but gave up too soon... Blogging...hmm I'm not sure that this is the BEST habit to form but I'm hoping that any habit will help!! :P
But then one could look at it from another point of view! It could be said that I am very flexible!! :)That is a very admirable quality is it not?!? That's the way that I prefer to put it. So I think we'll leave it at that! At the end of posting for a whole month(30 days), we will be past those 21 days..and I will be one habit less flexible than I was at the beginning of November 2007!

Saturday...the THIRD day!
Today was Saturday...and we spent the whole day home...It was really nice. It seems like we rarely do that...especially with all of us here! Randal was outside cleaning up leaves and finishing off winterizing the pool. That kept him busy all day because he also put away the deck furniture and I don't know what else! But it looks great out there...other than the fact that everything is either dead or dying :\
We're doing an experiment with the potted plants from the pool deck. The girls and Randal brought them all in. They're sitting down in the workshop for the winter. We're hoping that they'll survive and we can put them back out in the spring. Annuals are SO expensive. It's really easy to spend a couple hundred $$ on flowers! Although it's also very painful. This year I waited until everything was clearance priced....One downside to that, is that then everything takes so long to get big. By the end of the growing season it all is looking just beautiful! So hopefully the little experiment works.
Courtenay and I spent the day painting. We got the kitchen and the livingroom finished, well almost! The trim still needs doing, but at least we got those tall walls done! Once we finish the trim (tomorrow, I hope)the next challenge will be to reach the ceiling in the entrance! It's about 10' going up to about 14'...I'm not sure where we'll find a couple of ladders tall enough to get that done!? Oh well..we'll figure that out when we get to it.

This Weeks Ramblings....
Well the week was a busy one. As I mentioned before, I've been doing yard work all week. Wednesday was the day I did the greeting cards at the dollar store. That was a treat!(sarcasm inserted here). Normally it's fine but this week they had just gotten all their summer stock of rubber flip flops, holey shoes, rubber balls, etc..... Well the smell of rubber in there was extremely strong. By the end of the day I had such a headache I had to leave early. I ended up with a migraine and all the lovely things that go with a migraine.... I won't gross you out with the details. As it ended up I had to get up at 6 or so the next morning to do the paperwork so I could get it faxed in on time. Then I had to go back to the store, which I never do... it's one day a week...and tidy up the last details.
Needless to say I started off the next day with a migraine pill before it took off again, and headed off to do more yard work!
I decided that Friday had to be a day off!!! Yaaaay!! Okay well sort of. We did a bit of yard work here at home... cleaned up some in the carport, planted some canna lillies, watered the garden, etc. Then Randal and I took his Aunt and Uncle that have their trailer parked in our back yard, out to lunch. We went to a really nice restaurant. I had the special... sweet and spicy chili chicken.... It wasn't great..... but the rest of the meal made up for the meat! It was delicious! It was just really nice to sit in a pretty and relaxing place, eat and have some conversation. Then it was time to fly again.
We picked up the girls from school and came home and Randal headed out to work for an evening shift.
Shortly after he left, we noticed a ton of black smoke from a couple of blocks away. I said "Come on girls lets jump in the van and go see what's going on!" We headed over to see....as we got closer it looked like a plane crash, as we live close to the airport. It was a long swath of flames, just like a plane crash would be. I started to pray...I felt sick to my stomach. As we got closer people said no it wasn't a crash, just a fire. We were so relieved. As it turned out it started at a log home building site. They assemble the homes there, then take them apart and put onto trucks and ship to the buyer. It was a gigantic fire - we could see the flames from a few blocks away. There was a big pile of logs it was burning through and the wind was very high, so the fire was moving fast. I guess they had some barrels of some kind of fuel on site. Wow did they ever make a loud boom and a huge fire ball! Boy was I disappointed that I didn't have a camera! So sorry no pictures for you... I may be able to find some later.... there were tons of photographers and news cameramen there.
In the path of the fire was a massive stack of lumber. On the other side of that lumber is a lumber mill, then past that is an acre or two of wrapped lumber waiting to be shipped. On the other side of all of this is a gas station!!! Yikes! We got there really soon after it started and within a few minutes after that two helicopters appeared with water buckets swinging underneath them. They weren't going to mess around with this... It was time to get serious!! Next to this fire is a river canal full of water, so the helicopters would hover over the canal and let their bucket sink into the water. They would lift them out and fly over to the fire and drop the water on the fire about one bucket per minute per machine. It was a beehive of activity. I'm sure they had every fire truck in town there and I know that all the ambulances were there and they called in one for backup from the next town.
You wouldn't believe the traffic. I decided to be responsible and park away from the action and walk. Not everyone was of the same mind. The police had a busy time of it keeping people moving. They would stop right on the highway to watch and the police would put their siren on and shoo them away. Janelle and I decided to walk over for a closer look. We sat on the bank of the canal, what I figured was a safe distance away, and watched the helicopters come in to fill up then swing around and dump their watery load on the head of the fire. It took them a long time to get it under control. We stayed for about two hours then headed home to make dinner. I drove by late that evening about 11 pm and they were still fighting it, but seemed to have it contained to a log pile. The wind had died down too, so that made things a lot easier for them. Earlier the wind had been driving the fire forward into the mill, lumber piles, etc.
Just to back up a bit...
While we were watching the action shortly after getting there, Amanda noticed a snake slithering across the gravel. So we ran over to see. It wasn't very long, only about 12 inches... so we tried to catch it with a stick. I did manage to pick it up with the stick... I just wanted to get a closer look. We decided it didn't have rattles so it was harmless. Well Lindsay decided to pick it up. She figured "behind the head" was anywhere back of the head. So she did this. Well the snake curled around and was trying to bite her fingers as I'm standing there screaming at her to drop it. I then explained that "behind the head" meant right at the base of the head or even on top of it's head. After we went home we checked out what kind of snake this was...Apparently it WAS a rattlesnake!!!! I just about had a heart attack when I realized this! The worst part of it is that baby rattlers are more venomous that full size adults! Oh my!.... I was very thankful at this point that she hadn't gotten bit! I've lived here for almost 18 years and have never seen a rattlesnake, so didn't really know what I was looking at...
The weekend looks like a fairly busy one. It started last night with dropping the two older girls off. They are going to a youth convention about 5 hours away from here.
Randal's brother, wife and two kids are coming up for the weekend so we can meet the new baby. They will be staying with his Mom ........ it will be nice to see them and finally get to meet the cute little guy!! He's 2 months old already! Tonight we'll be having them, grandma and the aunt and uncle all over for a BBQ.
So today will be spent in preparation for tonight
The menu is:
-Steaks which I'll soon put in to marinate.
-baked potatoes.
-german potato salad
-bean salad.
-oriental cabbage salad
-veggies and dip.
-fresh baked whole wheat buns..mmmm mmm mmm
-dessert
-rhubarb torte mmmm
I'm looking forward to it... makes me hungry typing it out! You all have a wonderful weekend!

It's Saturday!!!! yahoo!
Well it's Saturday and I made it through a busy week. I worked 5 days this week. That's quite a big change for me. I'm used to working one day a week. Each day that I worked I had a one hour drive and an hour and a half if it was rush hour when I headed home.
Each morning I had to leave before the girls left for school. That was hard for me... I've always been home in the mornings and here when they get home from school.. other than the odd time. They walked to school each morning. Which was a good part of the whole thing. I've been wanting to get them walking to school for a while, but it's too convenient to drive them if I'm here. But they did really well. Everyone survived. Speaking of surviving - On the drive home Thursday, a pickup truck pulled out to pass me on a double solid line when there was oncoming traffic coming at us. I couldn't believe it!!??! I slammed my brakes on and pulled over as far as I could and I think the oncoming car did as well. He went by, between me and the oncoming car!!! Wow! talk about my angels being on guard! I was all weak in the knees and had tears come to my eyes... it scared me so bad. It is a fairly windy road and for the rest of the drive I watched him drive crazy...He was a few cars ahead of me and I saw him pull out to pass on a blind corner, then swerve back into his lane....I was sure wishing I had a cell phone with me! I remembered his license # but didn't write it down. Unfortunately when I got home it was gone. :( I didn't want to be one of those people that calls in a complaint and gives the vehicle description as a 'truck'... and when asked "what kind of truck?" answer with "ummm a black truck" Yeah so I didn't call. So I'm very thankful for God's protection!!
Well this weekend my hubby is driving a tour bus for the Girl Guides down to the Coast. So we'll see him tomorrow night.
Right away here, the girls and I are heading out to Okanagan Falls to see a horse, equipment and tack show. It should be fun! I wish I had my own camera....I'd love to get some pics.... I'll have to add that to my wish list! The one I occasionally use is Randal's work camera.... Maybe I'll start saving up for one. Anyway.. You all have a great weekend - I'm off to a horse show!

It wasn't a horse "show" ~ it was an auction. It was something the kids have never seen before. I like for them to experience new things. I'm glad I did it because it was a real eye opener for them... Part way through the auction, Courtenay and I ran out to the store to get something for us all to eat. She said something like "these people are unbelievable." I didn't think there were people like this, for real!?!" I said to her that this was why I wanted her to come... so she could step out of the little box that we live in and see how some of the people around us live and that it's a culture that is right here that she didn't even know existed!
I thought they would really enjoy it and they did. There were a couple of protests at the beginning but it didn't take too long before all eyes were glued to the action on the auction floor! We got there just before noon and didn't leave until 5 o'clock!! We were all happy that we'd gone!

Working
You may have noticed my posts for the last little while have been different than the usual blabbering on about what's been going on around here. Well I started a temporary part time job merchandising.
We go into Walmart, Zellers, London Drugs as well as many other drug/grocery stores and "reline" their cosmetic walls. The cosmetic companies hire our company to come in and do their merchandising, which includes taking most (and sometimes all) of the product down off the wall and rehanging it in a new position. We're doing a spring 'reline'. The companies come out with their new colours and products each spring and fall. So we're doing the "spring blitz". They're having trouble getting enough staff, so the days are long. We did a job on Monday that was 15 hours in the store, with a 31/2 hour drive home! That was a really long one but that has been the only one that's been that many hours. I'm amazed at how sore I was on Tuesday after the 15 hour day...going down to say goodnight when I got home at 130 am to my 13 year old was a hard one!! :oP
I talked about this a little bit in an older post called 'busy busy busy'. It is really physical work...
I like the sense of accomplishment though when you finish one of the company's relines and you stand back and have a look at how fresh and pretty it all looks. There are only about 3 weeks or so left before we'll be done.
The kids are home from school today. It's a Pro. development day for their teachers. So it's a day of laundry and general cleaning as I've been working for the last several days and things have fallen into a state of...umm....disorganization and mess!!!
Our 12 yr. old is going on a junior youth retreat this weekend, so we have to get her all set and ready to go for tonight, which includes washing her laundry and packing all her stuff.
Courtenay (13) wants us to start painting the livingroom today....We'll see how that goes. I have to get this laundry done, and also have to go do my card job at a dollar store. take Janelle to the dentist, and then drop Amanda off at the church at 4:30
